Strip Quilt Secrets
Recently I shared the story of how Scrap Quilt Secrets came to be a book, now I want to share the story of my second book, Strip Quilt Secrets!
I was teaching and sharing the quilts from my first book when something familiar happened, I noticed a trend in the questions I was being asked. So once again, my direction came from so many of you quilters! Just as had happened with my first book (the answers to my most frequently asked questions) I began the process again for my second book. Only this time, it was totally different direction! Instead of questions about design process, I was getting so many questions about techniques, and why I chose the methods I use. I was especially hearing so many questions about how I organize, store, and use my scraps in the techniques that create so many of my quilts.
It was both fun and interesting to analyze the process I use for keeping things organized as well as the techniques that I find most effective and accurate. And once again the homeschool mom in me had an acronym that needed to utilized! STRIP stands for Strip Sets, Triangles from Strips, Resewing Strip Sets, Individual Strips and Piecing Alternatives (which naturally includes a quilt using selvages!)
I was able to share the process I use for preparing the fabrics, cutting the strips, how I store them, and how I get the most accurate results when sewing with strips. One of my favorite parts of the book is the INDEX of strip sizes, so you can select a pattern based on what size strips you already have! Every pattern is also presented in 4 size options! There are plenty of design tips in this book as well, but it truly is technique focused. I’m so proud of the skills demonstrated and the focus on accuracy and efficiency.
If you have a lot of scraps and are feeling overwhelmed, this book is a great place to start. I hope you will feel more confident and inspired to attack your scraps and see so many more possibilities in them after using the information and patterns found in this book.
