Sparkle Quilt Along, Part 2
Triangle cutting using the 45 degree ruler will save fabric and create perfect triangle units. Note that there will be one corner that is clipped and one that is not, on each triangle.
Layer the strips and line them up on the cutting mat. Accuracy in cutting is critical! Press your strip if needed to make sure they lie flat. Using the easy angle ruler or any other ruler like the one shown will work. Disregard the numbers on the ruler. Line up the blunt tip at the top left corner of the strips. Make sure the marking on the ruler has a straight line across the bottom of the fabric as well. Once the ruler and fabric are both straight according to the lines on the cutting mat, cut along the long angle of the ruler. Rotate the ruler 180 degrees so that the blunt tip is now facing toward the bottom side of the strips. Line the angle along the cut edge just made, and cut the straight edge across the strip. Continue until the number of triangles needed is cut.
Sewing for each block:
Sew along the long edge of triangles using a 1/4” seam allowance.
Always feed the pointed corner under the presser foot first, this gives the feed dogs something to grab onto and prevents bunching of the fabric in the stitching area. Use your fingers or scissors, or other tool to make sure that the 1/4” seam is consistent.
Sew 32 background/ bright triangles together. Press toward the darker fabric.
Sew 16 bright/bright triangles together. Press toward the darker fabric.
If the cutting and sewing and pressing are accurate, there is no need to trim these 2 1/2” triangle squares or HST units. If they are not accurate, adjust accordingly.
Hint: put all the units for each block into a baggie to keep things sorted. Add the 16 background squares to the baggie as well (cut last week)
Enjoy every stitch! Diane
