10 Minute Tip

Design Wall Play

Select some blocks or units that you are working or (or have abandoned) and spend some time playing with them on the design wall. I have often been surprised by how simply moving things around and taking photos of options inspires me to pick up an old project or move forward on a current one. There is no expectation or pressure, just play for a bit. See what happens. Hopefully you will be surprised by new inspiration and discover a plan for something that has already been started. Or you may decide that the blocks or project need to go to a new home. If your heart isn’t feeling the connection to the project, give it to a friend or donate it to the guild swap table or put it in the donation basket for a local preschool or public school art department. It’s okay to abandon projects that no longer interest you, and it will take away the time spent thinking about it (and probably feeling guilty) and give you more time to focus on the things that do beckon to be worked on.

Remember, this quilting life is about enjoying the creative process, learning a few skills, making some amazing friends, and creating quilts that you love.
