10 Minute Tip

If your quilting room is anything like mine, the holidays took a toll on it! My cutting table becomes ‘gift wrap central’ and my sewing table collects everything from party favors to holiday cards! It’s time to reclaim our quilting spaces and put away the last of the holiday fallout.

When my kids were little we would take a break several times a day for what we called a 10 MINUTE TIDY. We would put away things that had been taken out, clean up messes and set up for meals or activities later in the day. The 10 minute tidy is something that I do in my quilting room from time to time as well.

It can include but is not limited to…

  • Cleaning off cutting table and work surfaces.

  • Folding and putting away fabrics and supplies that are not currently needed.

  • Cleaning the lint out of the sewing machine and wiping off the iron.

  • Sharpening pencils or marking tools.

  • Winding bobbins.

  • Removing threads from the design wall.

  • Using a scrap of batting to dust surfaces and machines, etc.

  • Setting out the supplies for the next project or step so the I can just sit down and sew the next time I get a chance.

There are so many benefits to doing a 10 MINUTE TIDY, not the least of which is finding cool stuff I forgot I had! Sometimes, just taking the time to prep the room for sewing is all the motivation I need to carve out some time for my favorite form of therapy…quilting.

Enjoy every stitch!
