New Trunk Show
All of my best ideas come from the questions I get when I’m teaching. Both of my books were a result of questions that I heard time and time again, and my trunk shows (quilt guild programs) are no different.
HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT TO QUILT ON THE FINISHED QUILT TOP?
I love to mix quilting techniques. My ‘more is better’ theory applies to quilting as well as fabric selection. But it’s not that simple. When I am choosing a quilting design for a quilt I ask myself several questions…
What kind of life is this quilt going to lead? Will is be used and abused or simply displayed with care?
What purpose is the quilt meant for? Does it need to be cozy and squishy or will it be hung on a wall? Will it be folded and unfolded or laid out on a bed?
Who is going to claim this quilt? Is it for a child, a friend or even a dog?
Will this quilt need frequent washing? What will that require?
What kind of quilting will show up on the patchwork? Angles or curves, in the ditch or echo, thread color to blend or contrast.
