Mug Rug Love

This little mug rug is a variation on the heart block in HEARTSY. The strips on the right hand side have been rotated. If you would like to add a border that would also be cute! Let’s get started…

Supplies Needed

• red and white scraps

• 7” square of batting

• 7 1/2” square of backing fabric

• 30” of binding

Cutting

• 3 red strips 1 1/2” x 6 1/2”

• 6 red strips 1 1/2” x 3 1/2”

• 4 white squares 1 1/2”

• 2 white squares 3 1/2”

Sewing

• Sew the 3 long strips together lengthwise. Press.

• Sew the 6 short strips together lengthwise. Press.

• Layer the white squares on the sewn units as shown, right sides together.

• Press or mark a diagonal line from corner to corner on each of the squares, sew on the diagonal line.

• Press the squares toward the corner of the unit and trim away the 2 excess layers under the corner.

• Sew the 2 pieced units together to create the heart. Press the block. Add borders if desired.

• Layer the heart on top of a scrap piece of batting, and a backing square, both trimmed to size as shown.

• Quilt and bind like a quilt.
